“Today, we present yet more evidence that accelerated neuromodulation with fMRI guidance appears to be an effective treatment for bipolar depression.”
Review of a two-site open-label feasibility trial of SAINT (Stanford Accelerated Intelligent Neuromodulation Therapy) in treatment-refractory bipolar I depression (60% response; Li et al. 2024, Journal of Affective Disorders), following the Raj et al. seven-patient pilot. Opening claim that fMRI-guided accelerated TMS appears effective in bipolar depression, where antidepressants and conventional TMS have not worked.
