Third-party claim
“The pandemic waiver of in-person requirements allowing telehealth prescribing of controlled substances expires at the end of the calendar year, along with a myriad of other telehealth provisions. DEA is not interested in extending the pandemic-era flexibilities past the end of this calendar year and its draft rule undergoing White House review may be more restrictive than current flexibilities.”
Post on Inside Health Policy reporting (Aug 27, 2024) that HHS, the DEA and the White House budget office disagree over the special registration rule for telehealth prescribing of controlled substances, delaying the second proposed rule. This passage, apparently quoted from that reporting, states the pandemic waiver expires at the end of 2024, the DEA will not extend it, and the draft rule under White House review may be more restrictive than current flexibilities.
